Parents Code of Behaviour
Parents are reminded that they are part of the West Adelaide Bearcats Basketball Club.
Whilst
from time to time situations may occur which causes a player or parent
to become emotionally involved during a game, we must insist that
players and parents act responsibly at all times when representing the
club. The player can be reported by a referee during a game or for some
time afterwards whilst in the stadium. If this does occur the player
will be required to attend a BSA Tribunal which can suspend or
reprimand a player. Parents should be aware that if they misbehave
during a game, ie. abuse a referee, the team through the coach could be
disadvantaged by a bench technical foul.
If children are
interested, encourage them to play sport. However, if a child is not
willing to play, do not force him or her. Focus upon the child's
effort and performance rather than the overall outcome of the
event. This assists the child in setting realistic goals related to
their ability by reducing the emphasis on winning. Teach children that
an honest effort is as important as victory, so that the result of each
game is accepted without undue disappointment. Encourage children to
always play by the rules.
Spectators Code of Behaviour
Children play organised sports for fun.
They are not playing for the entertainment of spectators only, nor are they miniature professionals.
Applaud
good performances and efforts by your team AND the opponents.
Congratulate both teams upon their performance regardless of the game's
outcome.
Respect the official's decision. If there is a
disagreement, follow the appropriate procedure in order to question the
decision and teach the children to do likewise.
Never ridicule or scold a child for making a mistake in a competition. Positive comments are motivational.
Condemn the use of violence in any form, be it from coaches, spectators, officials or players.
Show respect for your children's opponents.
Encourage players to play according to the rules and the official's decisions.
Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by not using foul language, harassing players, coaches or officials.
